The Board of Light and Power is making available to its residential customers free Compact Florescent Light Bulbs (CFL’s) on a first come first service basis.
CFL’s save money by using up to 75% less electricity than an incandescent bulb, according to energystar.gov.
Each household can receive one 2-bulb package.

Are CFLs safe to use?...YES!
CFLs contain a very small amount of mercury (less than 5 milligrams), but none is released when you use a CFL bulb.
What if I break a bulb?
Open windows to ventilate the room. Do not vacuum the broken bulb pieces. Wear gloves when cleaning up. Use a broom and dust pan to sweep up larger pieces, then wipe with a wet paper towel. Place the broken glass, bulb base, and cleaning supplies into a sealable plastic bag and dispose.
