Electricity is there at the flick of a switch. Electricity must be produced constantly at the same time people want it. One way to conserve is to manage the demand. That's where you come in. Demand, of course, is controlled by the consumer.
When many people use a large amount of electricity at the same time, it costs the utility and the consumer more money than at other times. Try to avoid energy intensive chores during peak hours which currently is Monday through Friday - 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Weekends and holidays are off-peak.
The best way to conserve energy is to use it wisely. The largest energy user in homes is heating and cooling systems. Yet, it has been estimated that as much energy leaks through American windows every year as flows through the Alaskan pipeline. Having a home energy audit can help you find those drafty places and plug them up. Weatherizing such as insulation and caulking is a wise investment that pays off in reduced utility bills and saved energy.
Together, our utility and its consumer-owners can team up to improve the quality of life in our community and throughout the country, and ensure reliable, clean electric service at the lowest possible rates.
