The Grand Haven Board of Light & Power (BLP), located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, is seeking a successor to the utility’s General Manager who will retire in December, 2014 after 35 years with the utility including the last ten as General Manager. This position is the top leadership position for the utility, and is responsible for the entire utility and its performance. The General Manager is employed by, and reports to, a five-member Board of Directors who are elected by the citizens of Grand Haven. The BLP has approximately 13,500 customers with a peak demand of 65.2 MW. The BLP’s primary generation source is the 68MW, coal-fired Sims Generating Station Unit III (Sims III). BLP also has approximately 6.5 MWs of peaking capacity at their Diesel Plant. As a member of the Michigan Public Power Agency, BLP participates in a project purchase power agreement for landfill gas generation, wind, and waste-to-energy generation. Total revenues in fiscal year 2013 were $36 million. The BLP has 70 full-time employees. The successful candidate will possess at least ten years of progressively responsible experience in a utility setting which includes five years in a senior management role. Beyond the technical aspects of utility management, the successful candidate must offer a broad skill set that includes comprehension of the “big picture” of public utility operations. The ideal candidate will also offer measurable accomplishments in the areas of electric power production and distribution that includes comprehensive knowledge of coal, gas and clean renewable technologies. A Bachelor's degree is required and an engineering curriculum is preferred. A Masters’ degree is also considered ideal. In addition, the BLP is most interested in candidates with comprehensive knowledge of the practices and procedures involved in the planning, construction, and start-up of major generating and distribution facilities, knowledge of the Midwest Independent System Operator or another similar ISO/RTO market, management of a municipal utility, and familiarity with environmental regulations. INSTRUMENT & PROCESS CONTROL SUPERVISOR

Responsibilities: Supervisory and technical work on pneumatic & electrical instruments, digital electronic control, nuclear density gauges, emission control system, computer systems, electrical systems and FGD systems of the J.B. Sims Generating Station. Calibrates transmitters (pressure, vacuum, differential pressure, temperature and level in any medium) as well as able to work with various engineering units. Calibrates gauges both regular and compound. Has considerable knowledge of electrical components. Keeps accurate records of work done on continuous emissions monitoring equipment. Performs quarterly QA-QC procedures on emission system. Coordinates and assists in performing annual Relative Accuracy Test Audits on CEM equipment. Coordinates and assists in performing five-year Particulate testing as per BLP renewable operating permit. Generates quarterly electronic data report for submittal to the federal EPA.
Qualifications: Two or more years of electronic or industrial electronics or Electrical Engineering degree, five years or more of power plant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience with ABB Symphony Products / Infi-90 very beneficial. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and positively with customers and coworkers. Excellent attendance and safety record.
