The Grand Haven Board of Light & Power is a West Michigan municipal electric utility located on the picturesque shoreline of Lake Michigan. The BLP serves 13,750 customers and is the exclusive provider of electric service within the City of Grand Haven and portions of the City of Ferrysburg and the Townships of Grand Haven, Spring Lake, and Robinson. We have two electric generating facilities, six substations, and approximately 220 miles of electric distribution lines with 70 skilled and dedicated employees. At this time, we have a unique opportunity available for a qualified engineer.

Distribution and Transmission Engineer

Responsibilities: The Distribution and Transmission Engineer is responsible for budgeting, planning, construction, and reliability of the BLP’s distribution and transmission system; compliance with environmental, safety, and other regulations associated with the operation and maintenance of an electric utility distribution and transmission system; responsible for system stability and efficiency, including studies pertaining to feeder loads, power factors, fault currents, voltage regulation, line losses, system protection, and arc flash; and the BLP’s SCADA control, mapping system and analysis using GIS based software.

Qualifications:  Baccalaureate level majoring in Electrical Engineering with at least two years of professional experience in an electric utility environment. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and positively with coworkers and customers.  Excellent attendance record and exceptional safety record. Salary based upon qualifications. Journeyman Line Worker/Apprentice Line Worker

Responsibilities:  Certified journeyman line worker or apprentice line worker enrolled in a qualified apprentice program. Experience in constructing, maintaining, and repairing electrical distribution systems. Must be self-motivated and able to interact positively and effectively with others, work safely, and understand complex systems and equipment. Works outdoors in all weather and conditions. Capable of climbing poles and working from an elevated bucket.

Qualifications: High School graduate. Certified journeyman line worker or apprentice line worker enrolled and progressing in an accredited line worker training course.  Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and positively with customers and coworkers. Excellent attendance and safety record.
